Inside Out artists facilitate theater workshops focused on group-building and cooperative work, the development of performance skills, and ultimately the creation of an original performance piece. 

At the conclusion of the workshop, groups perform their work for an audience of peers, staff and community members.The workshops introduce theater as a legitimate and empowering method of communication accessible to everyone. 

Workshop participants will learn ways to find expression for their individual as well as collective voices, and will have the opportunity to initiate a dialogue with their audience that may continue long after the performance has come to an end.

Plans are underway to begin a summer theater workshop with the women at the Maine Correctional Center

Pending funding, workshops will begin with the Youth Building Alternatives Program at Portland West

Inside/Out envisions a community actively engaged in the holistic social reintegration of offenders through accessible and consistent arts programming at the preventative, intervention and aftercare levels.
 
MISSION
Inside/Out is a performing and creative arts organization collaborating with incarcerated and formally incarcerated people to increase opportunities for active participation in meaningful collaborative creative work, the sharing of orginal work with our community, and the facilitation of dialogue in order to initiate social change.
