Broken Clock Tour

Maine Inside Out's latest two performances of “Broken Clock” in Portland and Orono were in collaboration with the University of Maine School of Law and the Maine Youth Action Network (MYAN).

At Maine Law, students, faculty, staff, and alumni came together to witness the play and engage in dialogue, grappling with questions like:

How to protect victims hurt by others while also protecting those hurt by the system?

As a lawyer, how do I support people who are inside when I don’t have the answers they want?

What does it mean to invite people back into the community?

We talked about wishing we could all have what we needed to truly grieve, knowing that our systems of punishment don’t take away the pain; instead they expose the people inside to constant trauma. We talked about the importance of connecting with people who are inside - taking their calls, having their back, and communicating with them. Audience members were dreaming for:

A society that supports children and parents

Healing for the future

All kids to get to grow up safe and whole, and pass that on

Everyone accepted for who they are

Seeing people inside as part of our community, and wanting them to succeed

Way fewer people in jail

Radical compassion for all people around us

Thank you to our Maine Law performance sponsors Pierce Atwood and Brann & Isaacson, and for the beautiful reception donations from Coffee By Design, Pepsi, Poland Spring, Rosemont Market & Bakery, Scratch Baking Co., and Two Fat Cats Bakery.

At the University of Maine Orono performance in collaboration with MYAN, the audience and cast talked a lot about the impact of systems on youth and families. Audience members were dreaming for:

A world where every young person feels like they have a choice

A world where kids can be tiny humans with big emotions, and worry about adulting when they’re older

A world where kids can be kids, where parents can care for them without having to work two jobs just to pay rent

Every person’s circumstances may not align with ours - not judging, bringing humanity back in

Support MIO: Will you dream with us?

Thank you to all who have already made a year-end gift to support Maine Inside Out! We are now more than 20% of the way to our goal of raising $75k by Dec 31.

These funds are vital as we prepare for the coming year:

Playmaking with incarcerated artists inside Maine prisons;

A tour of a new original play created by system-impacted artists;

Theater workshops with Lewiston youth;

Statewide Adult re-entry support;

Opportunities to come together to envision communities that center humanity, connection, and dignity in holding ourselves and our neighbors accountable.

Thank you for being part of this work!
