Inside Vision + Broken Clock on May 1 at ColbyArts
MIO’s statewide group of Community Artists at April’s community lunch
MIO Board Member Robert Pollock was the featured speaker at this month’s community lunch. Check out a clip from Robbie’s talk here. The group also welcomed home longtime MIO artist Abdi Ibrahim who has performed in many community and inside plays since 2015 and is featured in many MIO films. Welcome home, Abdi! MIO has a longstanding tradition of welcoming people home from incarceration with ceremony to create a circle of support around the person. The ceremonies include a circle of sharing support, written messages, many hugs, and cake.

The statewide artist group created artwork on the theme of “difficult decisions” in preparation for our next Open Mic “Inside Vision” on May 19 at L/A Arts! The event will feature Lewiston-based musician Axmet Alay. On display will be a visual art exhibit coordinated by Maine Prisoner Advocacy Coalition also called “Inside Vision” featuring artwork by incarcerated Maine artists. As always the Open Mics are open for anyone to perform, so bring something to share or come to witness and be a part of the community and connection!
Broken Clock Tour
The Creative Ensemble and audience in dialogue following the “Broken Clock” performance at Mayo Street Arts in November.
We are excited to share that MIO is partnering with the Maine Department of Corrections to bring the Broken Clock Tour inside Maine’s prisons. In June, MIO will kick off the inside tour with performances at Maine State Prison and Maine Correctional Center.
After each performance of “Broken Clock” is a community dialogue where audience members are invited to participate in conversation about the play. The tour is bridging together an ongoing dialogue across various community and correctional settings that then impact the evolution of the performance and each successive dialogue. You are invited to join us in this ongoing tapestry of voices, experiences, perspectives, and dreams!
