Mission

Maine Inside Out is a performing and creative arts organization collaborating with incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people to increase opportunities for active participation in meaningful creative work the sharing of original work with our community and the facilitation of dialogue in order to initiate social change.

Vision

Maine Inside Out envisions a community actively engaged in the holistic social reintegration of offenders through accessible and consistent arts programming at the preventative, intervention and aftercare levels.

What We Do

Maine Inside Out artists facilitate theater workshops focused on group-building and cooperative work, the development of performance skills, and ultimately the creation of an original performance piece. At the conclusion of the workshop, groups perform their work for an audience of peers, staff and community members. The workshops introduce theater as a legitimate and empowering method of communication accessible to everyone. Workshop participants will learn ways to find expression for their individual as well as collective voices, and will have the opportunity to initiate a dialogue with their audience that may continue long after the performance has come to an end.

Workshops

A typical Maine Inside Out workshop includes ten two hour creative workshop sessions culminating in one original performance. Workshops are flexible and can be modified to meet organization or facility needs.
