Leadership Transition Announcement from Margot and Bruce

Dearest friends,

The end of 2023 marks our last day as Co-Executive Directors at MIO. It has been a beautiful journey in our shared role, learning and growing over the past 3 years together. Bruce will leave the role after 8 years at MIO - 3 years in the Co-Executive Director role and 5 years on the MIO board - and Margot will leave the role with 15 years at MIO as co-founder and in various staff roles over the years and most recently 3 years as the Co-Executive Director, alongside Bruce. We thrived as a leadership team and are now leaving the role to the next team of leaders.

We are leaving this role with endless gratitude to have found ourselves part of MIO. Where the organization is now, the journey here, and the success and accomplishments have everything to do with the hundreds of MIO artists who are part of MIO’s past and present - the art shared and futures imagined have been the vision to stand by as a collective. Additionally, every single one of MIO’s staff brings a different expertise and perspective to the work, and the broader community makes MIO what it is - powerful, loving, and truly revolutionary. It all is part of our story and the story of MIO this far - there is much to celebrate from where we’ve come and incredible work that will continue to make change happen in the world.

With this change, we are certain that tremendous thought and care is being given to this leadership transition for the organization. We are proud that MIO has engaged in a process grounded in its values using a transition circle made up of staff and board members to determine the next leadership iteration at MIO.

In our departure, the Interim Co-Director Team will be Joseph Jackson, Noah Bragg, and Chiara Liberatore. Funders and donors can reach out to Molly Burk, Philanthropy Lead, for questions and opportunities. MIO is in the brilliant hands of a creative, insightful, and leader-full team and a board circle, chaired by Jonah Fertig-Burd, dedicated to the vision and sustainability of MIO.

MIO is in strong financial shape with multi-year investments from across the state and nationally, a community of committed annual and monthly donors, and a budget that has grown significantly in the last few years. MIO has projects in schools and in Mountain View Correctional Facility and in the community statewide. This growth is because of the support of many of you reading this letter, and it leaves us feeling very confident in the continued growth of MIO.

We both will continue to be part of the MIO community and the bigger movement and we each are looking forward to working alongside you in different capacities. Our emails will close at the end of 2023 and we have included our new contact information at the bottom of this letter. Please update your contacts for us and let’s stay in touch!

Thank you all so much for the years of collaboration and support. We are grateful for all that we have built together and what will continue to grow in the next chapter of MIO. Our new contact info is linked in our signatures below.
